Opinion On “Bedbugs Evolve Rapidly to Withstand Pesticides”
In a previous post....one with no Reply option, you said hawks are back because it is illegal to shoot them.
That does not pass a simple smell test. Hawks were not hunted in areas where I frequented. My grandfather had 600 acres and no interest in job hunting tips hawks. In my entire life, I never heard of anyone who shot a hawk.
If hunting predators could wipe out hawks, I would not have seen opossums or weasels either. Both were common and both compete with hawks for a chicken dinner.
Hunting would Read more [...]
Some Thoughts On “Penn Jillette’s Homage to Hummer”
I do not feel stupid at all when my husband calls me to pick him up at work because his Mini cannot get through the snow. We live at 8500 feet above sea level. After sliding down the mountain roads in other autos, I wanted the safety of a Hummer. I have an H2 and absolutely love it. I can get through just about anything and never worry about rollover. I also love to drive my Porsche when the snow melts, like it is right now. I take the Jaguar when I want to go to the flatlands. I really resent people Read more [...]
Analysis On “Drug Makers Refill Parched Pipelines”
Neil,
I'm disappointed with that link. I thought I'd get better information than I already had. That's a CBO report, but the $800 million they cite is from the DiMasi study. Marcia Angell among others has challenged the DiMasi study. Nobody outside the pharmaceutical companies knows how much they spend to develop a new drug, because they don't release figures and don't give researchers access. Even within a company, it's hard to whether an expense should be charged to R&D and whether it should be Read more [...]
An Opinion On “Justices Joust Over Christian Group’s Rights”
The case was brought not because the group cohesiveness closed their doors to anyone; indeed they welcomed all. The issue revolved around electing officers of the club; anyone wishing to run for a club office had to sign a letter attesting to their chastity and a belief that homosexualtiy was wrong.
Whether you agree or not with the group's belief is besides the point. The actual question is can a group using public facilities (campus meeting rooms) maintain its cohesiveness by independantly choosing Read more [...]
My View On “Obama to Visit a Warming Japan”
Japan is a very important ally for lots of reasons. We would be smart goals template to cultivate our mutual goals. I would rather have Japan buy US debt, than China. The Japanese are reasonable folks, secure with their position in the world. The Chinese seems to be steep on the learning curve, may I say immature, but Japan has held their position as a developed nation for many years.
I think the Japanese should start raising their military to be on par with other nations, and while an ally of the Read more [...]
Analysis On “Rick Perry: Texans Are Baffled by the Keystone Decision”
Cli want to change my lifemate change has always been a serious threat to life forms on this planet incapable of adapting to it. It could be argued that human capability and culture evolved and prospered because of their capacity to adapt to climate change.
The question of whether human activity is making a significant impact on the normal climate change regime (the earth has been in a general warming cycle, with numerous short-term deviations, for over 13,000 years) is generally poorly understood, Read more [...]
My Analysis On “Japan’s Nuclear Crisis Escalates”
Japan does not need help dealing with the powerplants. They have everything under control, the worst that has happened is that 80 thousand people had to be evacuated, which doesn't seem like a large price to me after just surviving the world an 8.9 magnitude quake and ensuing tsunami. Japan will be fine. What people should really be worried about is now Japan will have to start importing more oil since they have lost so much energy from the nuclear powerplants. Whether or not Japan imports that much Read more [...]
Some Thoughts On “Jobs in Wireless Industry Evaporate”
These jobs are vanishing because the technology of deploying telecom network equipment has advanced beyond the need of constant human intervention. The technology is such that equipment that once filled large multi floor buildings now fits in a single bay, and may only be a few RU's of that bay. The wireless network has followed the fate of the old wire line network and switching, once deployed they need little oversight. What use how to motivate staff take a support engineer, installer, and service Read more [...]
A Response To “Racial Gap Persists in Swimming”
I have known about the discrepancy for a while. The Bradley Foundation, always looking for grounds how to lose weight fast at home claim black people are genetically inferior, funded studies claiming there was something wrong with people of African descent that made them sink in water. I remember laughing at one of the studies with my brother, who virtually lived in the water from the time we were little kids.
As for the student in the WaPo article, she is not suitable for a crew, mainly because Read more [...]
Some Thoughts On “Borders Forced to Liquidate, Close All Stores”
About two years I walked into a Borders and saw a book that I wanted. A quick comparison on the mobile device showed it was twice as expensive as Amazon and so I asked the sales manager resume for a discount (not half mind you - just something to make it more reasonable) and the manager gave me some attitude and said there was no discounts. At that time, I predicted that Borders would soon be out of business if they didn't soon change their business model, and it has come to pass. I weep not for Read more [...]
